Where the Chinese Painting Will Go?

    By Sun Ke

As China became the member of WTO, China will face more challenges in many area,at the same time, more chances comes. What is the effect on Chinese traditional painting is still unpredictable, at least in a short period of time. One thing is certain is that the western culture will rush to China and play a more important role. Where the Chinese culture will go? Some people asserted in mid-1980s that Chinese traditional culture has come to the end, all the tradition will be changed and westernized. However, after about 20 years opening, Chinese culture did not perish, but more and more prosperous.

It is a common sense that a nation should keep its own speciality on culture and other areas. Chinese painting, after 5000-year development, is still vivid . It is deep-rooted in China, and loved by Chinese people. Some artists have suggested to establish a Chinese Painting Acedmy, to foster painters with essence of Chinese culture and spirit.

How can Chinese painting will go out of China? It is not a simple question. Only few Chinese painters has held exhibition abroad. Foreigners and overseas Chinese know nothings about the paintings. In China, famous artists's works are very expensive, and are not accessible to ordinary people. What is more, there are still many problems in our art market. There are so many good art works can not be circulated on the market. Galleries, art museums and academies are worried about this phenomenon. There are so many artists in various institutes and associations, but there rendered almost nothing to Chinese people.

Chinese painting has its own characteristics. As the economic development, Chinese people will afford the Chinese paintings they like. At present there are some painters who makes experiments on our Chinese painting, what I want to say here is, you need not do this to meet the need of foreigners, and that will let you to lost ego. Just be yourselves .
