      Avant-garde Photography in China

The real Avant-garde photography in China took its first step in later 1990s,a group of painters and sculptors began to try to combine the photograph and conception art.

The artists were including Hong Lei,Zheng Guogu, Zhuang Hui, Chen Jiexiong, Zhao Bandi, Wu Xiaojun, Cheng Yihui. They all used computers, and the methods of painting, clay sculpture and perfomance., hoped to express instant experiences on the level of image through camera. The photos in such period belong to "conception photography". This marked the rises of the China's Avant-garde photography .

The first Avant-garde photography exhibition was held in the Gallery of Institute of Fine Arts of Shanghai University, the curator is Zhuqi. From then on, more and more young artists threw themselves into the new photography, and lots of their works has been exhibited on the international exhibitions.
