Along with the rising of the western feminism in the 1970s, all kinds of creative impetuses on women's topics began to emerge in large numbers, they were actively reflected by the contemporary arts after '85 Artistic Trends in China. But because of the questions of Chinese local faith, the statements on these topics said above from the artists in their native country tend to express their own characteristics of culture. This mainly refers to the artists who gave up the desire of being culturally colonized and more fussed on pondering on the aboriginal cultures.

It must be recognized that there are lots of possibilities in art, and that art's functions is limited. On the contrary, the artists of this show (called as Up Down&Left Right), especially the female ones among them, are deeply interested in the selfconsciousness of sex. It is believed that art could explain itself with in limited topics. Therefore, these artists always can slowly and concentrated develop their clear-cut feminist languages. Here, the outdated argument for the theory of pansexuality is not very emphasized, but it is not denied that the sexual intentions in artistic expression have an eternal aesthetic value.
